District of Columbia Notice of Non-Discrimination Poster
The Notice of Non-Discrimination Poster is a District of Columbia equal opportunity law poster provided for businesses by the District of Columbia Office Of Human Rights. This is an optional notification, so while it is recommended that businesses hang this poster if relevant to their employees, it is not required by the Office Of Human Rights.
This optional poster is a summary of DC's notice of non-discrimination. It lists the categories that DC does not discriminate on. It provides specific information on sexual harassment and contact information for reporting possible violations.
In accordance with the District of Colu\fbia Hu\fan Ri\bhts Act of 1977, as a\fended, District of Colu\fbia Official Code Section 2-1401.01 et seq., (Act) the District of Colu\fbia does not discri\finate on the basis of actual or perceived: Race Color Sex (Gender or sexual harassmen\f) Na\fional \brigin Religion Age Mari\fal S\fa\fus Personal Appearance Sexual \brien\fa\fion Gender Iden\fi\fy or Expression Family Responsibili\fies Ma\fricula\fion Poli\fical Affilia\fion Gene\fic Informa\fion Disabili\fy FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT OF 1990 The District of Colu\fbia Fa\fily and Medical Leave Act of 1990, D.C. Law 8-181, requires, effective April 1, 1991, all e\fployers of 20 or \fore e\fployees in the District of Colu\fbia to provide up to 16 weeks of unpaid fa\fily leave: for the birth of a child, adoption or foster care to care for a seriously ill fa\fily \fe\fber And up to 16 weeks of unpaid \fedical leave: to recover fro\f a serious illness renderin\b the e\fployee unable to work for a total of 32 weeks durin\b a 24-\fonth period Durin\b the period of leave, an e\fployee shall not lose any e\fploy\fent benefits such as seniority or \broup health plan covera\be. The e\fployer \fay require \fedical certification and reasonable prior notice when applicable. The Act applies to e\fployees who have worked for the e\fploy- er for one year without a break in service and who have worked at least 1000 hours durin\b the last 12 \fonths. E\fployers \fay have leave policies which are \fore \benerous than those required by the Act. A COMPLAINT CONCERNING A DENIAL OF RIGHTS UNDER THIS ACT MUST BE FILED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE OCCURRENCE OR DISCOVERY OF THE VIOLATION. PARENTAL LEAVE ACT OF 199\f In accordance with District of Colu\fbia Law 10-146, effective Au\bust 17, 1994, an e\fployee who is a parent shall be entitled to a total of 24 hours leave* durin\b any 12 \fonth period to attend or participate in school-related events for his or her child. “Parent” \feans natural \fother or father of child; A person who has le\bal custody of a child; A person who acts as a \buardian of a child re\bardless of le\bal appoint\fent; An aunt, uncle, or \brandparent of a child; or A person \farried to a person listed above. “School-related event” \feans an activity sponsored by either a school or an associated or\banization. *The leave provided by this Act \fay consist of unpaid leave unless the parent elects to use any paid fa\fily, vacation, personal, co\fpensatory, or leave bank leave that has been provided by the e\fployer.
